After the events of Avengers: Endgame shattered the Sacred Timeline into a multiverse of madness, Phase 4 kicked into high gear with this season finale of Loki that paid tribute to the vast library of Marvel content. It also set up the next phase of the MCU and officially announced a second season for the Disney+ series.
Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as the God of Mischief and is joined by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophie Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku, Eugene Cordero, Tara Strong, Jack Veal, Richard E Grant, and DeObia Oparei. The show is written by Michael Waldron and directed by Kate Herron.
The season finale opens with a recap of He Who Remains’ actions, which created the TVA and ended a multiversal war between his variants. He Who Remains explains that his last act wiped out all of the alternate timelines except for one, which he wants to replace him in overseeing the TVA and a singular timeline. Sylvie agrees to help him if he promises to spare the MCU from another Infinity Saga.
Mobius and B-15 enlist Loki to help hunt the Variant, who murdered several TVA agents and stole their timeline-resetting charges. They find the creature in 1985 Oshkosh, Wisconsin. She enchants Loki, who reveals that he is a male variant. Mobius and B-15 attack, but the Variant teleports away and has the other variants pruned.
Mobius and Loki arrive at the ark, an evacuation spaceship that could save Lamentis-1 from destruction by a nearby planet. The TemPad on the ark runs out of power, so they use a version of Loki that is unable to die to charge it. They then sneak aboard, but a crowd of people attempting to board is attacked by a meteor. Loki distracts the guards while Sylvie tries to enchant Alioth.
