Is Loki Safe For Your Kids?

Marvel’s latest series is a lot of fun. Fast-paced action (but not too fast), gorgeous CGI, and perfectly delivered dialogue from both Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson make it a tv show you will want to watch. But is it kid friendly? Let’s break down the violence, language, nudity and sex to see if loki is safe for your kids.

In Norse mythology, Loki Laufeyson was born small and weak compared to his parents on the icy planet Jotunheimr. Abandoned by his father Laufey as a baby because of his diminutive stature, he was taken in by Odin and raised as one of the Asgardian princes alongside his biological son Thor. Though he is the son of the Frost Giants, Loki views himself as an outsider amongst the AEsir and has spent his life trying to prove to Odin that he deserves the Asgardian throne over his brother.

Despite his feelings of being an outsider, Loki does have strong feelings of love and compassion. His relationship with his wife Sigyn is a testament to this, as she loves her husband despite knowing his flaws and weaknesses. His relationship with his children, however, is more complicated. With his female giant lover Angrboda, Loki fathered Hel, the goddess of death; Jormungand, the world serpent; and Fenrir, the enormous wolf. Despite these three having an AEsir father and a Jotunn mother, Loki considers them to be monsters instead of his children. As a result, he is unable to trust in his father’s love for him and often acts jealous of his brother.
