Legend of Loki Kenichi

Loki Kenichi is a fictional character developed by the late Keiichi Suzuki, who also created a popular children’s book title called Bonsai. Suzuki wrote the original book in Japanese and turned it into a manga version, and later Japanese-English translation. In addition to being a manga adaptation, the anime version of Loki follows the original story plot but changes the characters and events for the sake of creating a more “children-friendly” version. The manga was later turned into an anime series, where Loki appears as a main character in the TV show, Tokyo Ghoul: Defeat L Lucy. The franchise has also spawned a number of video games, some of which have been localized in the West.

Loki is a spirit of reincarnation who lives inside the five hells. Because he knows the disastrous effects of his actions, he wishes only to be restored to his natural form, and destroy the darkness once and for all. As a spirit, he can only be judged by those who have passed his test, and he has chosen his three earthly companions to represent his three test subjects: himself, Setsuna, and Orihime. When fighting demons, he transforms into a dragon.

Loki’s childhood friend, Shinichi Chiaki, believes that spirits are trapped inside the three hells, so he tries to help Loki free himself and defeat the enemy more quickly. He believes that if Loki triumphs, his spirit will come back to him. But this isn’t how the story ends. In order for Loki to win against the enemy, he has to learn from his mistakes made in his previous battles. And if he succeeds, he will be able to fully transform into a dragon and live his life as a spirit.
