Tom Hiddleston is nothing short of brilliant as Loki, the god of mischief in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But he hasn’t always been the lovable hero everyone knows and loves. In fact, he’s been a villain more often than not. The God of Mischief is a sorcerer, and he’s used his powers for evil purposes. He’s sought revenge against his adoptive brother Thor and his father Odin. He’s also manipulated his own half-brother Balder, leading to the destruction of Asgard. And he’s even used Sif, the Warriors Three Volstagg and Fandral, and Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall as pawns in his plots.
In 2012’s The Avengers, Loki’s latest scheme involving the Tesseract backfired and inadvertently led to the formation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. So, filled with vengeance, the God of Mischief attacked a SHIELD facility and stole the Tesseract, which could spell doom for humanity. Fortunately, Nick Fury called in some backup and gathered Steve Rogers (Captain America), Bruce Banner (the Hulk), Tony Stark (Iron Man) and Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow) to take him down.
In the end, the heroes were able to defeat Loki and his army and take the Tesseract away from him. However, this wasn’t the end of the story for the God of Mischief. A few years passed, and Loki was finally able to redeem himself. The Avengers rescued him and took him back to Asgard.
