Loki Is D.B Cooper

The premiere episode of Marvel’s Loki threw a lot of new stuff at viewers, including appearances from the Time Variance Authority and a rogue version of the god of mischief running amok on multiple timelines. But it also revealed a new twist in the story of Tom Hiddleston’s mischievous scamp’s history that’s causing fans to lose their minds.

During a conversation with TVA agent Mobius, Loki is shown a time theater projection of his past and he gets to see himself as D.B Cooper, the infamous plane hijacker that was never caught. The scene plays out exactly how the real-life hijacking was reported, right down to the sleek suit and sunglasses that Cooper wore. Then there’s the note he handed to the flight attendant that said, “Ma’am, you’d better take a look at that. I have a bomb.”

The only difference is that instead of the ransom being a Bifrost, it’s a briefcase full of money. And while we may never know what the bet was that Loki lost to make this whole thing happen, it’s safe to say that this is one of the most accurate depictions of an unsolved crime ever put on film. So why did the show pick this specific detail to reveal? Well, it turns out that there’s a pretty good reason. It turns out that this particular scene was actually inspired by Mad Men, which happens to be a series that is currently airing on AMC.
