Loki is the Most-Watched Original on Disney+

The Tom Hiddleston-starring Marvel series Loki isn’t just the highest-watched debut for Disney+’s original content, it was the most-watched premiere across all of the streaming service’s offerings. Disney CEO Bob Chapek confirmed that the first episode of the show about a rogue Asgardian working for the time-travel police blew past WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in its opening week, reports Laughing Place.

The six-episode series sees Hiddleston’s god of mischief stripped of his Asgard royalty and entering the fold of a detective agency that specializes in time criminals. The version of Loki featured in the series is a variant who was created by Avengers: Endgame’s time travel sequence, meaning that unlike the main timeline’s version of the character, this one hasn’t experienced Thor: The Dark World or Thor: Ragnarok.

Like many of the MCU shows to date, the series does a fine job of deviating from the overbearing and occasionally oppressive narrative framework that the films have established. In addition to letting the characters themselves grow in terms of their superhero abilities, the Loki story takes us to worlds that are both beautiful and utterly bizarre, from a desert planet that’s about to be crushed by another world to a void at the very end of time populated by a gang of Lokis.

The six-episode first season of the show ended on June 9. Watch it in the gallery above, and be sure to check out the behind-the-scenes documentary Loki: Assembled, available now on Disney+.
