When Agent Coulson was killed by Loki in The Avengers, it made the agents of SHIELD team unite and avenge his death. However, it seems the vengeance may have been short-lived.
As the MCU continues its multiverse arc, many fans are wondering what will become of Coulson’s resurrection on Agents of SHIELD. Recently, head writer Michael Waldron addressed this topic while discussing the show’s first episode of season 4.
Waldron pointed out that when Coulson was pruned by Renslayer during the premiere of season 4, it served as a direct parallel to the way that Loki had killed him in The Avengers. While he did acknowledge that this was just one writer’s opinion, it was nonetheless intriguing.
However, it was the final scene of the premiere that was most interesting to fans. During the episode, the God of Mischief was brought to Earth through the scepter and controlled the minds of Hawkeye (Chris Hemsworth) and Erik Selvig to pit them against each other. However, when Coulson tried to stop him, he was brutally killed. Loki took great pleasure in this, laughing as Thor watched helplessly.
The scene went over well with fans and even spawned its own meme. It was so popular that Clark Gregg posted a pic of it on his Instagram story. Check it out below.
