Loki Movie Release Date Has Shifted

Tom Hiddleston’s God of Mischief was quite the trickster in his first season of Marvel Cinematic Universe spinoff Loki, and he’s sure to keep up the good work in the second. The show wowed audiences with its six-episode debut back in June 2021, and the House of Mouse greenlit a second season of the limited series. But with the ongoing writers and actors strike and internal shake-ups, the show’s release schedule has shifted, leading to some uncertainty about when we’ll see the new episodes hit Disney+.

The story of the sophomore season centers on the antihero’s gig with the Time Variance Authority as they hunt nefarious superhero iterations who cause havoc across alternate timelines. The cast also includes Owen Wilson’s Mobius M. Mobius, Sophia Di Martino’s Sylvie, Ke Huy Quan’s kooky new Time Variance employee and Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror variant.

The season will also include guest stars from the main film franchise, such as Gugu Mbatha-Raw, DeObia Oparei and Richard E. Grant. Kate Herron returns as the director, while Michael Waldron remains on as head writer. But the departure of a key cast member, a shift in production timing and the ongoing WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike all mean that it might be a while before we get to watch Loki return for a third time. And even if the series does return, it’s possible that the third season will wait until after Avengers: Endgame hits theaters. That could give the show time to make room for the next chapter of Hiddleston’s MCU career.
