Loki of Asgard – The God of Stories and Redemption

Loki has a reputation as one of the most cunning, manipulative tricksters in all Asgard. Though he lacks the strength, tenacity and wisdom of his brother Thor, he makes up for it in intelligence, skill as a sorcerer and his natural propensity for mischief. He is the god of lies and deception, but he is also the god of stories and the god of redemption.

As the son of Laufey and Frigga, he was raised by Odin to be heir to Asgard. Though he never believed it, he longed for the love and acceptance of his father. To that end, he tried many wrong things.

Despite his good intentions, Loki found it difficult to rule Asgard and grew increasingly resentful of the attention Odin paid to his older brother. His mischievous nature turned into malice as he plotted to usurp the throne. After aiding the Storm Giant Ghan and helping the fire demon Surtur, he lost the All-Mothers’ trust.

In his search for a way to redeem himself, Loki sent Odin, Balder and Sif off on a quest to gather materials for a sword and followed them. There he met the other gods of magic, Eldred, who schooled him in black sorcery. He soon discovered that he could enhance his powers by trading his soul for the power of the demon Surtur. Later, the other gods of space, the Chitauri, took him under their wing and gifted him with ancient knowledge and a powerful scepter to wield.
