Loki on Disney Plus Season 2 Review

With its mashup of Loki variants, wild amplification of the Marvel multiverse, and a budding romance between two versions of the same character, loki on disney plus is a mesmerizing and exciting show. But it’s also a little confusing. As it veers into familiar Marvel territory (cgi battles, world-ending stakes) in the second half of its first season, it loses some of its uniqueness. It’s like it needs to decide whether to lean more into its zaniness or take itself too seriously.

Thankfully, loki on disney plus makes up for it with a stellar cast. Tom Hiddleston brings a depth to the trickster that hasn’t been seen in other MCU shows. He’s ably supported by Owen Wilson as the smarter, more cynical MCU version of himself, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as a conflicted TVA bureaucrat, and Wunmi Mosaku as a hardened TVA hunter.

The writing can be a little uneven at times, but the performances are always on point. It takes a while to settle into a rhythm with the ricocheting of timelines and twists, but once it finds its groove, the second season is a thrill ride that’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.

While it’s too early to know if the series will make good on its promise of Kang/He Who Remains/a full-on Multiversal War, it’s clear that this is one of the most entertaining and inventive shows Marvel has put out in years. It’s a worthy successor to WandaVision, and hopefully the writers can find an equilibrium between humor and dread that’ll keep it compelling as it moves into its second season.
