Loki Upcoming Movie Review

Tom Hiddleston has been a scene-stealing villain or, more recently, a grudging sidekick to Chris Hemsworth’s square-jawed Thor for over a decade now, but the God of Mischief is finally getting his moment in the sun with a standalone series. And, based on the first episode of Marvel’s new Disney+ show, loki upcoming movie looks like it will be worth the wait.

In the six-episode Loki, directed by Kate Herron and written by Michael Waldron, the mercurial MCU villain finds himself trapped in an alternate timeline. It’s a situation that the smart, clever Loki is well equipped to handle but one that doesn’t sit well with him, either. The show wrangles with time travel and the concept of multiple universes while mixing action, humor, and some weighty themes about the nature of free will.

Unlike other Marvel TV shows, Loki does a good job of avoiding exposition dumps and cheap Easter eggs. Instead, it layers on extra texture in a fun and easygoing way. There are dark flourishes of Coen Brothers-style office comedy among the harried clerks and claustrophobic warrens of the TVA (Time Variance Authority), and Kasra Farahani’s production design creates an aesthetic of epic drabness that’s spiked by bursts of color.

Hiddleston is joined in the cast by Sophia Di Martino as Sylvie, Owen Wilson as the TVA’s Mobius, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Judge Renslayer, Rafael Casal as Hunter B-15, Wunmi Mosaku as Agent C-306, and Ke Huy Quan as Hunter G-23. The first season of Loki arrives on October 6 on Disney+.
