The story of Loki in Avengers is very well told, and it gives us a look into the character’s past. We also learn some new secrets about him, including what makes him so deadly with his magical powers and what drives him on. It would have been nice to see him take a more human role in the team, but he ends up being a warrior first and foremost. This book is a great jumping off point for those who have read the original series.
The story line begins after the events of Secret Invasion when everybody has been killed, except for Rhodey, who is still alive and hiding out. He doesn’t know what happened to his father or to his home, so he is running around New York City looking for answers. He finally runs into Dr. Doom and gets an eye infection, which leads him to studying the mysterious man known as Kang. Doom has always been mysterious about his past, but he tells Rhodey about the Secret Invasion and the Kang Dynasty, and that he wants to help them stop Thanos’ empire.
After this, Rhodey is shocked when he finds out that Doom knows his father was a hero, because Doom knows him as The Fantastic Four’s friend. The story ends with Rhodey helping the Fantastic Four fight the Leader, and then he goes on to join the Avengers. Overall, this is a good story with many twists and turns, and if you like the Avengers, you will like this comic. I recommend picking up this one if you have a free Saturday afternoon to spare.
