The Myth of Loki Kills Baldur

The myth of loki kills baldur is one of the most famous in Norse mythology. It shows us that even the most seemingly harmless things can cause harm, and that it doesn’t take much to cause death.

Baldur was a god who was loved by everyone in the nine worlds. He was the shining son of Odin, the God of Light and Wisdom, and he was also a prince of Asgard.

When Baldur began having horrible dreams of his death, Frigg went to every living thing in the Nine Worlds and asked them to promise that they would not hurt him. All of the things promised to her were animate and inanimate, but all agreed that they would not harm her son.

After all the promises had been made, the gods and goddesses in Asgard began testing them. They threw darts at Baldur and hacked him with their axes, but everything bounced off of him.

Loki was jealous of Baldur and started causing trouble among the gods. He found out about this from Frigg, and he decided to get him out of the way.

He went looking for a twig of mistletoe and fashioned it into a projectile. He then gave it to Hodr, Baldur’s blind brother.

Hodr threw the mistletoe arrow at Baldur, killing him instantly. This event triggered Loki’s imprisonment and set in motion Ragnarok, the end of days. It also helped to show that no matter how good you are, fate can come for you at any moment.
