Who Is Loki? A Historical Overview

When the gods of mythology decided that it was time for the mortals to step up and play their part in the divine struggle – what happened next? What did those players do? They became mighty heroes known as “Loki” and “Odin” in Norse mythology. Their strength, courage and skill allowed them to defeat the mighty Thor and drive him from the land.

How did they accomplish this? Some people believe that they subdued the hammer-wielding god using an enchanted weapon called the Nibelungenlied. Others think they drove him from the kingdom with a giant snake called Mhogachy. No matter which way you look at it, the winner is located the father of evil.

So, how did those in ancient times go about getting the answer to the question – who is loki? Did they consult the sagas? Or did they simply use their wisdom, wits and their powers of deduction? Perhaps there was no need for those sagas or other ancient sources because it seems that the answer to the question – “Who is Loki?” can be derived easily from common knowledge. far as who is Loki is concerned, he may not actually have been a giant at all. His real name was Telefloe, a name which describes the sea monster. It is also possible that he might have been a giant among his equals who were gifted with magical powers. However, this aspect of his character has never been clarified. Whether or not he was a giant in size is irrelevant – he certainly enjoyed the attention because of his magical powers and he enjoyed being the big bad wolf in the fairy tales and in modern media.
